Bad AI has taken over

A few examples of how it’s currently going with AI.

This employer may use an artificial intelligence algorithm to provide an initial comparison of an applicant's education, experience, and skills against the education, experience, and skill requirements in the job description. This analysis produces a

The Resume Scan BOT

I was applying for a position, and in the application, after uploading my resume, a note popped up on the screen. At the bottom was an acknowledgment and a recaptcha button confirming I was not a robot. The funny bit was that the note informed me that AI would scan my resume to see if I was a match and then grade it against other applicants. “We are robots, but want to confirm you are not.”

This is just one example of bad use of AI and bad choice of using reCaptcha along with it.

The Phone BOT

I was searching online for a phone number for a real estate agent the other day. After one out-of-service number and a random voicemail box, I finally got connected to someone. She sounded pleasant but seemed to be going on about something. The conversation started with her asking me if I was over 55 as I could qualify for a discount rate. I informed her I was not and asked If I had the right number. She replied with, “I understand,” which, to me, said she ignored my question and continued telling me I qualified for a free pager device that would make an emergency call if I couldn’t reach the phone. All I had to do was sign up for a service plan. LOL, I was like, what number did I call? I asked again if this was the agency I was trying to reach, and my question was ignored again with the same generic response. She asked me for my personal information to get me signed up for the service and receive my free panic alarm button. I was suspicious after my first question was replied with “I understand, …” and continued to go on her sales pitch. But it was confirmed I was talking to an AI bot… but was it really a conversation? It seemed too one-sided and pushy. Was this some sort of scam to get people to pay for a service or steal personal information? I'm not sure how I got that number, but I just hung up.
