Paper Lanterns
I was watching a fellow creator on YouTube, “CinoDrome,” where Dave Fogler was working on an office desk for his wife in the den, but it needed to be hidden away. During this episode, he pulls out an old storage box, and inside is a beautiful antique Japanese lantern that he has fitted with lights and a metal frame. He then proceeds to wire it above the desk. Wow, what a fabulous statement piece that was. Out of curiosity, I did some googling and searching through eBay listings, and I was shocked at the prices of these. They are super cool and still handmade to this day, which is why they retain their value. Not to mention, they are fragile. To find an old one in good condition is rare. So how hard would it be to build my own? I watched a few videos on how it was done traditionally. Anyway… here’s my take.
